Donnie Allison is one of the three founders of the legendary "Alabama Gang" and a member of the International Motor Sports Hall of Fame and the Motor Sports Hall of Fame of America. He and his wife, Pat, live in Salisbury, N.C., surrounded in close proximity by their four children, ? grandchildren and their dog, Baby.
Watching Jimmie Johnson charge through the field to win the QuikTrip Folds of Honor 500 at the Atlanta Motor Speedway brought back a lot of memories for me.
It reminded me of the races I ran there. In particular, it reminded me of the Dixie 500 I won there on Nov. 5, 1978. And it reminded me how true it is that the more things change, the more they stay the same.
To this point in my life, I have never really been a big computer person. I didn’t text until just recently. I don’t have a Twitter account, and I don’t spend much time on Facebook. To be honest, I don’t really spend a whole lot of time on the Internet in general.
But there comes a time when even a 75-year-old like me has to try to change with the times. That’s why I’m so excited about my new website and the opportunity it presents for me to do these blogs on a regular basis and talk about the sport I love — auto racing.
